Regional and Radiological Anatomy
The Voxel-Man 3D-Navigator: Upper Limb is the latest addition to a series of interactive atlases of anatomy and radiology. The program is based on a high resolution digital body model that was derived from the cross-sectional images of the Visible Human Project. It contains approximately 320 three-dimensional anatomical objects of the shoulder, arm and hand including bones, muscles, arteries, nerves, tendons and ligaments.
- Unlike books or traditional multimedia programs, it allows interactive exploration of a detailed three-dimensional anatomical model. Each structure is labelled and described- and can thus be interrogated directly on the screen. In this way, the advantages of dealing with real anatomy are combined with the advantages of learning from a book.
- Unlike traditional sources of knowledge, the Voxel-Man 3D-Navigator presents the radiological manifestation of normal anatomy in the context of three-dimensional anatomy. It thus decisively improves the understanding of X-ray images.
The anatomical nomenclature is available in Latin, English and German, and the manual in English and German.
The example screenshots show an overview of the muscles of the arm, where several muscles have been interactively color-marked (left), and a detailed view of the back of the hand (right). Please click on the icons to see the full resolution images.
The program provides unique reference material not only for medical students, but also for professionals in all medical disciplines involving hand surgery, anatomy, and radiology. Interested non-specialists can also explore the inner structure of the human body using the 3D-Navigator.
